Parts of Citarum River

Citarum River stretched for 297Km with the start of the river begins at KM-0, Situ Cisanti, South of Bandung City and ends at Karawang, Bekasi with the river water flowing into Java Sea in Muara Gembong area.

In the upperstream we can find many waterfalls or known as "Curug" in Bahasa Indonesia with beautiful views such as Curug Cimahi, Curug Dago, Curug Tilu Leuwi Opat, Curug Malela, etc.

Along the river there are many big tributaries with the major ones listed as such : Ci Beet, Ci Kao, Ci Somang, Ci Kundul, Ci Balagung, Ci, Haur, Ci Mahi, Ci Rosea, etc.

Citarum River also has 14 Oxbow lakes that are currently being revitalized to be used as tourist attractions, retention pool to reduce flooding and also to maintain the river ecosystem. 

 

There are also 3 large dams along the Citarum river ; SagulingCirata and Jatiluhur which provide hydroelectric power generation and serve local irrigation.  

As we travel lower to the downstream of Citarum, we can find there are identified estuaries found in Karawang, Bekasi. Muara Gembong, Muara Bendera and Muara Bungin.

Citarum’s delta is found at Muara Gembong, Bekasi and finally the river mouth flows to the Java Sea. These all make up the River System of Citarum River.
